Fort Polk, Lousiana
Fort Polk is located near Leesville, Louisiana. The US Army occupies the base. TheIn 1993, Fort Polk became the home of the Joint Readiness Training Center JRTC. Fort Polk is also home to the Warrior Brigade along with medical, dental and military police commands which support the installation.
Fort Polk was built in 1941. The hospital supporting the base is the Bayne Jones Army Community Hospital.
The 4th Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, one of the Army’s new modular brigades, officially activated January 19, 2005 at Fort Polk. The Mountain Division is no longer just Fort Drum NY.
The base has been named in honor of the Right Reverend Leonidas Polk, the first Episcopal Bishop of the Diocese of Louisiana and a Confederate general.
